Yoga for Ukraine
108 sun salutations on Saturday 2nd April to raise vital funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee.
£15 per place whether you join us in person at Trinity Rooms, stroud or virtually on Zoom.
Every penny will be donated to the Disaster Emergency Committee.
Join us to do something truly epic with this led class of 108 sun salutations to raise money for the Disasters Emergency Committee’s work in war-torn Ukraine. We’ll start a 12 o’clock (GMT) on Saturday 2nd April.
You can participate in person at Trinity Rooms in Stroud, Gloucestershire, or online via Zoom. Please note that whatever option you choose pre-booking is essential. (Places at Trinity Rooms are strictly limited due to the size of the room.)
The whole yoga-thon should take around 90 minutes and you can do as little or as much of it as you’re able. This is very much a yoga marathon rather than a sprint but you can join in whether you’re an un-bendy beginner or have a regular practice; there’s no pressure to perform. Let’s face it - the most important thing is that we raise as much money as we can and hopefully have some fun at the same time.
Don’t know your Downward Facing Dog from your Upward Facing Bow? Don’t panic! You’ll be expertly guided from start to finish by one of the brilliant local teachers we’re bringing together for this epic event.
Why are we doing 108 Sun Salutations?
An excellent question.
A sun salutation is a flowing sequence of set yoga postures (usually around 10) which are co-ordinated with the breath. Different types of yoga use slightly different variations, but they are all based on the synchronisation of inhales and exhales with smooth and dynamic movement which takes you from a standing position down to the floor and back up again to where you began. Repetition gives you the opportunity to allow the practice to be as good for the mind as it is for the body, and can even become a moving meditation.
For special occasions and significant events yoga practitioners will do 108 salutations as the number has many important and symbolic meanings in diverse disciplines, ranging from mathematics to religion, spiritual practices to martial arts and, of course, yoga.
