YOGA FOR UN-BENDY BEGINNERS

A YOGA BREAK AT THE GLORIOUS RAGDALE HALL…. SPECIFICALLY FOR ANYONE WHO HAS ALWAYS WANTED TO TRY YOGA, BUT DIDN’T THINK THEY WERE BENDY ENOUGH. (OR THIN ENOUGH, OR YOUNG ENOUGH, OR OWNED ENOUGH LYCRA, OR LIKED WINE TOO MUCH….)

Smile! It’s only yoga!

Smile! It’s only yoga!

Join me for a totally un-scary introduction to yoga; learning how even the un-bendiest of bodies can build a practice, and all the positive benefits this ancient way-of-living can have for our crazy modern lives.

Together we’ll learn poses and practices to help you feel all kinds of brilliant, and equip you with tools and knowledge so that you can feel confident continuing your yoga journey at home or in a class.

We’ll also be busting some myths about what yoga is and what it isn’t and sending you back out into real life with a fantastic foundation from which you can keep on learning.

Our sessions will be a combination of learning some basic asana (the moving and bending of bodies) and slowly building up to a simple-but-oh-so-effective flowing vinyasa practice, as well as introductions to basic meditation and mindfulness techniques.

Here’s what each of our 90 minute sessions may look like:

-       Each lesson will have a theme. For example, maybe we’ll be investigating why kindness is so important to our life on and off the yoga mat. So we’ll kick off with some chatting and exploring a bit of yogic thinking which we can take into our real life.

-       Next we’ll do some mindful breathing; an easy but effective practice to get settled and ready to make the most of our time together.

-       Then we’ll get moving into our asana practice (and start to gently bend our bodies); every pose will be offered with modifications and over the break we’ll keep building on what we’ve learnt.

-       Finally we get to the best bit – savasana. This is the pose we do right at the end; you lie down, find some peace and some stillness and soak up all the benefits from moving your body and stilling your mind.

-       Then you all joyfully skip off  into the rest of your day, to enjoy all the delights that can only be found at Ragdale!

Absolutely no prior bendiness is required, and this break is for total yoga beginners. But please note that there will be movements that take us from standing, down to the floor, and back up again. Whilst these will be incremental, gentle and slow if you have problems with these kinds of movements learning yoga in a class scenario such as this may not be for you. Please contact us to discuss if you have any questions or concerns.

If you have any serious medical conditions you should check with your doctor before starting any kind of new physical activity. This break is not suitable for pregnant women.
